Field PR is a publicity consultancy specialising in books and cultural projects. It was founded by Claire Maxwell, a book publicist and writer with more than a decade of experience working across publishing, journalism and cultural communications.
Claire began her career in publishing working in-house at Canongate Books and Icon Books before going freelance (for the first time). She later served as Director of Read Maxwell Communications, where she led strategic campaigns for a wide range of authors and publishers, as well as charity initiatives.
Over the past decade she has worked on campaigns for publishers including Hodder & Stoughton, HarperCollins, Peninsula Press, Bonnier, Elliott & Thompson, Chelsea Green, Quarto, Weatherglass Books, Conduit Books and Les Fugitives, and has collaborated with authors ranging from major international writers to debut voices.
Her work spans literary and commercial fiction, narrative non-fiction, memoir, politics, nature writing and cultural criticism. She has led campaigns for authors including Matt Haig, Bear Grylls, Lynne Tillman, Eliza Barry Callahan, Hanako Footman, Sir John Lister Kaye, Archbishop John Sentamu and Derek Gow.
Claire specialises in shaping campaigns that work across both national media and specialist literary and cultural outlets. Her approach combines careful positioning, thoughtful pitching and long-standing relationships with editors, producers and journalists.
“Claire brings a rare combination of empathy, creativity and curiosity to her work. These qualities make her particularly effective in PR, where she consistently delivers thoughtful, well-executed campaigns.”
